Reflection Questions #152-156

152. Why do you think Elie Wiesel wrote this book?
I believe that Elie Wiesel wrote this book for many reasons. Throughout his story, he mentions people who have had these experiences and when they once tell their story, others wouldn’t believe him. This book is meant to people who would not believe in this terrible episode of their time. I think that another reason why Wiesel might have written this book is to inform, as well as to narrate. He writes about every fact of the life in concentration camps, but with this goes his own words of description that have too been through his eyes. Importantly, it is to give a message to the people, that this is an awful thing to do to the human race.

153. Why do you think he chose Night as its title?
Wiesel chose Night as its title because it is this time, where every scene becomes real to Elie. As he closes his eyes, every moment he has gone through comes to his mind. Moments that he has gone through each day. It is also the point where not even at this time of day, everything still runs. Like the crematories, they run day and night. Wiesel can retell everything in Night.

154. How does Elie change as a result of his experiences in the concentration camps? Elie has deep changes as a result of his experiences in the concentration camps. The first heavy change on him was his belief in God. In every cruel thing that was done to the very good people and children, there was no sign of God’s love. God, who he thought was all powerful, wasn’t there to stop the people from killing the children. Where there was suppose to be His world of peace, there wasn’t. Instead there was one of cruelty and hell. Another change happened within him. He had nothing more to live for. Elie felt very hollow from the inside. A part of him was dead.

155. How does Elie finally come to terms with his ordeal? (What does he finally do?) Elie finally comes to terms with his ordeal. When he is liberated he decides to keep on living like the rest would. He doesn’t think about anything else other than what he has been through. He will keep on living with hollowness in him. This is also done by not feeling any sign of revenge towards the people who tortured his family. Elie thinks only about gaining strength that he had lost during these years.

156. Give examples of issues in Night that still arise today and what do you think should be done about Genocide? Examples of issues in Night that still arise to this day are that of Genocide. One example would be the fact that millions of people were killed depending on their ethnicity. Gypsies, Poles, Jews were among these people. They are placed in camps were there are stages to follow. There are many strategies available to kill these hundreds of people. Today, Genocide is still present in many countries. I think that everyone should start taking action. First of all, I think that countries that are free from Genocide should strongly join together so that we may help these people. Countries can help these victims out secretly. A plan should start to be used. If not, more and millions of people are going to die. It will include men, women, and children at a young age who don’t even deserve this type of maltreatment.

The Diary of Anne Frank

pg.832

1) The families must obey strict rules to avoid discovery. Which rules would be the hardest for you to follow? Why? One of the rules is the hardest for me to follow. That rule is to remain without food until about six in the evening, when all the workers are gone. I believe that this is the hardest rule for me to follow because my body is not used to this schedule that I now have to live with. I used to be a normal person and as part of my daily life, I can assume that I eat breakfast in the morning and lunch in the afternoon. Again, it would be the hardest because I would starve for about ten hours each day for two years.

2) (A.) In scene 1, what objects does Mr. Frank find in the secret rooms? In scene 1, Mr. Frank finds two objects in the secret rooms. The first object he finds is a many colored scarf. The second object that he finds is a white woman’s glove.

(B.) How are these objects connected with the rest of the act? These objects are connected with the rest of the act. In Hanukkah, Mr. Frank was given a present, that present was made by Anne, his daughter. The present was exactly, a many-colored scarf that she had sewn for him. The second object is related to the act because it is one garment that Anne wore when she visited Peter. That was one of the white gloves she had left behind.

3. (A.) What special meaning does Hanukkah have for the families?
Hanukkah had special meaning to many families. The meaning of Hanukkah was of giving thanks for every “blessing” they have had. It was a time for giving away presents. It was also a time of having a feast, spending the time together with all the family united, and a time of singing with jubilation.

(B.) What do Anne’s presents show about her?
Presents made and given by Anne show much about her. One thing that it shows is how much motivation or spirit she has. Even though her presents were mostly already used, she wouldn’t mind, and would mostly care to recreate what was left. In other words, she cared for how much this was worth, then how much it wasn’t. She just wanted for everyone to become glad or hopeful like her.

(C.) Why do the others react with enthusiasm to their presents?
The others react with enthusiasm to their presents. They react this way because what they all mostly get is something already used, but created in a new different way by Anne. I think that another reason why they reacted like this because they weren’t expecting such thing from her in those times.

(A.) With a partner discuss Mr. Frank’s statement, “There are …no locks that anyone can put on your mind.” I think that his statement of how there are no lock that anyone can put on your mind is being referred to his daughter Anne. It exactly describes her. Throughout the time that they were in there, Anne was always opened minded. She created ideas of her own, and acted freely upon the situation that they were in.
(A.) What is the historical cause that forces the Franks to go into hiding? The historical cause that forces the Franks to go into hiding was the Holocaust. It was about a six year period in which Jews were exterminated.

(B.) What effects does this situation have on their daily lives? This situation has many effects in their daily lives. For one, it intervenes with their communication with others. When they go in hiding, they must not be seen or heard, or else someone can tell on them and be persecuted. A second effect is the fact that it changed the way they were being supported. They lived in a small place with two floors, and shared many things. Another effect that it had on their daily lives applies to their own personal needs. For example, they no longer counted on much food. They were to share, and eat equally. Also, they did not have privacy, nor they could use the washrooms until they were told to.

In scene 2, Anne and Peter discuss the Stars of David on their clothes.
(A.) What effects do the Nazis intend the wearing of the stars to have on the Jews? There are effects that the Nazis intend the wearing of the stars to have on Jews. The effect was to make them feel inhuman. They wanted to terrorize them, make them prisoners of their own.

(B.) What background information about the war and the Nazi’s treatment of the Jews helps you to link this cause with the intended effects? The background information that helps me link this cause with the intended effects was that they would take them to reservation camps, Food wasn’t given to the hungry, and they starved. As for others, they made their way through working. Sometimes they would clean streets and perform other kinds of labor.

Complete an organizer like the one shown with examples of dialogue that achieve each purpose.
Reveals character and relationships
While sleeping, Anne is having a terrible dream. She only wants to speak to her father. Her dream was about the police taking her.
Mrs. Frank would you like some water? Was it a very bad dream? Perhaps if you told me…?
Anne- I’d rather not talk about it.
Anne- Will you please ask father to come.

Advances the action of the plot (Mrs. Frank- You are safe you see? Nothing has happened. Please Mr. Dussel, go back to bed. She’ll be herself in a minute or two. Won’t you Anne?
Mr. Dussel- Thank you but I’m going to the w.c. The one place where there is peace!
Here the conversation rises in between the Franks and Dussel.

Develops the conflict: Anne’s nightmare became true

8. After Mr. Kraler asks if Jan Dussel can join the Franks and the Van Daans in hiding, what does the dialogue among the characters reveal about their personalities? The Franks in their dialogue show a little more caring and importance than what Mr. Van Daan shows. In their dialogue, the Franks welcome Jan Dussel and greet him very nicely, but they care because they talk about how dangerous it would be for him to stay out and be caught. On the other hand, Mr. Van Daan shows more of a rejection. He does not want to take him in. The first reason was because there was already enough people in the place. Second, that meant less food for them each. They now had to share equally.

Pg. 810
What do you like best about Anne Frank? How would you like having her as a friend? The thing that I like about Anne Frank is her open mind and positive thinking. She does not let anything bring her or other down. She deeply cares, and through rough times she hopes for the best for her and anyone else too. I think that I would like having her as a friend. The reason why is because I believe that she is friendly, and would hear you when you need it.

(A.) What disturbing news does Mr. Kraler bring on New Year’s Day? On New Year’s Day Mr. Kraler brought bad news. The bad news was that a man from Utrecht had made some suspicious remarks over to where Mr. Frank was. He had asked Mr. Kraler where Mr. Frank was, but Kraler did not tell him anything else. The man had seen his books case, and a missing door in the room. These were clues that revealed more facts and raised his suspicion. He had now asked for more money, and Kraler wasn’t sure if he could do that fearing that he might say something to others.
(B.)What hint does this give about the ending of the play? This might point out to how and why the men came to take them away in the ending. It hints out that there might be another conflict coming up in the story just like it did in the end.

(A.) What is the time span of Act II?
The time span of Act II is about nine months.
(B.)How have the characters changed since the end of Act I?
Since the end of Act I the characters have changed much. Ever since living together, frustration has grown in them. For example, the Van Daans were more violent as well as their arguments. Even Anne felt a change in herself. Her mother did too, and for now they do not comprehend each other.
(C.)How do you know that Anne changed?
I know that Anne changed because states that she has something changing inside of her, like as of feeling. I believe that what she feeling is because throughout the act, she’s been visiting Peter.

(A.) How can Anne believe that “…in spite of everything…people are really good at heart?” I think that Anne can believe that in spite of everything people are really good at heart because it is how they chose their ways of living not of which they really are. Maybe she may believe that once there was a point in their lives that they decided to become another person for various reasons.
(B.)What does Mr. Frank mean when he says: “She puts me to shame”? Mr. Frank means that he is shamed of himself. Even a younger person like Anne was more hopeful than him. She took things more calmly, but with certain hope. She appeared sometimes not scared of what would happen, and Mr. Frank did.
(A.)Mr. Van Daan’s decision to steal food
Cause: there was a shortage of food, and there were eight people of whom very little of food was given to; he did not want to share.
Effect: other members of the place got very angry; he was being forced to leave along with his family
(B.)Mrs. Frank’s change of heart about wanting the Van Daans to leave
Cause: Mr. Van Daan seem to appear that he did not care for the others or his own son who really had grown smaller because of the lack of food, but she changed her mind because they had gotten news that stated that they were going to be soon liberated. It made her so happy it overpowered the feeling of being furious
Effect: Both families were reunited again

What are some possible causes of Mrs. Van Daan’s attitude toward Anne and Peter’s relationship? Mrs. Van Daan’s attitude toward Anne and Peter’s relationship was a little protective. I think that some of the possible causes for her attitude being like this is because Anne would go to Peter’s room. She disagreed, she believed it was the boy who had to go and call the girl, not a girl on a boy. She was also concerned of Peter and his growth, when Anne visited she did not want her to stay late. This was because Peter was to rest. Also, another possible cause for this was that Mrs. Van Daan thought that they were doing something else besides talking, because in her days that wasn’t what they named “talking.”

Living in close quarters has multiple effects on the residents of the “Secret Annex.” List three effects that result from this single cause
One effect in the residents from living in the close quarters was that they could not get their own food; one of them who were hiding them had to provide them with it, and each time their bodies would come along and change too. A second effect was how some members changed their ways of being. For example, Anne changed by the way how she felt towards Peter. The third effect was problems among two people. One example would refer to Mr. Van Daan and Mrs. Frank, or Mrs. Frank and her daughter Anne.

Miep- Action: Brings flowers and cake to the attic room Motivation: it was a time of celebration and she at least wanted to make the families happy in those hard times
Mr. Van Daan- Action: Steals food Motivation: There is a shortage of food, and he does not want to share, he wants to take more before he starves
Peter Van Daan- Becomes friends with Anne Motivation: He no longer has his cat, and he needs to talk to someone, Anne convinces him by sharing some of her own experience

Some possible motivations that an informer would have for telling the authorities about the families hiding are because:
· He might have thought that turning them in was being able to make money
· Have future problems
· Have someone else tell them, and the accusation might involve the informer

Hansel and Gretel

I have spent the most horrible days of my life not long ago. It has only been one year now, when the worst has happened to my family. Today, like my brother Hansel says, we give well thanks to God for having this food.

It all began last year; my father was a wood-cutter. I lived in a very poor house. In it were my brother and my stepmother too. I always thought she was very helpful and considerate. But it all changed with just simple path down to the deep of the forest. It was one night that Hansel and I were terribly hungry. We could not sleep for all we knew. When I heard my step-mother telling my father something. Hansel was listening real closely.

We were going to be left all alone in the middle of a dark forest. How terrible. How lucky to have my older brother by my side. He went outside and I looked out through the window. Hansel picked up many white pebbles. They seemed to shine in the night. Right away I knew what we had a plan. “Be comforted, dear little sister, and sleep in peace, God will not forsake us” he said. His words did comfort me.

It was our first trip to the forest. Hansel kept on making his path. When we finally stopped, my father and mother went on ahead to “find wood”. But we knew where they were really heading. Hansel and I were tired, and so we went straight to take a nap. Later when we woke up I saw the dark surrounding. I was afraid that something out there would hurt me.

I woke my brother up, and we headed back home. The same thing happened all over again. Soon, our nightmare became true. Hansel’s plan did not work. We were lost. On the third morning we got to a candy house. I starved and grabbed anything I could to eat. I dropped everything when an old lady came out. But she was no threat. At least that’s what I thought. We lived happy, not until she told me she was going to kill my brother and locked him in a cage. I tricked her when she asked me to go in the oven. With all my power I pushed her in, and quickly locked the little door. Then, crying, I went over to my brother and got him out.

One nice duck took me and Hansel back to our home. Unfortunately, my evil stepmother died. My father took us both in. Now he did not have to starve. We had all we ever wanted. To this day I can vividly feel and imagine everything. My brother is the same, but he tells me to forget about it. Its best for me.

"Adam's Diary"

Friday: I wake up, and I found myself surrounded by an amazing place. I do not know what all these things are, what they are called, a color, how to describe them.

Saturday: What a tiring day. I've been walking all day in search for a place to rest. When all of a sudden I see something out of the corner of my eye. It looked at me with this face that resembled curiosity. I didn't know what that was, to stay safe, I went up what I called a tree, and I leaned to the side to see what it was. I did so, it was a woman. A she. I did not know what she wanted, or who she even was. I got surprised to see that she stayed all day to, stare at me.

Sunday: She is still there. Is she looking for me, waiting for me, or does she even know me? I do not know what to do with her. But instead, I try to climb down, and plan something for the day. I will try to see how to gather something to eat. Well, on second thought, there's nothing to do.

Monday-Saturday: She talks too much. Very curios is what I think. She can't avoid any subject. Her name is Eve. But she has helped in many ways. She has taught me color names, and object names, and many more things. i felt that she was superior to me. Soon as I started to learn more, I realized one thing. She was naked. I clearly told her that, that is what she looked like. I thought, that to be respectful, I should just look away and not look at her body.

During the next few days, I did not talk to her. Perhaps, I needed time to think. I tried to avoid her. But one thing I did do was glance at her. I would look at her when she wasn't looking. She went to sit by herself. I thought she was beautiful. I knew that, but questioned myself if what I was feeling, she felt too. later on, i changed my mind, and starting acting normal.

One of the most incredible things has happened today. I saw fire. It was the color yellow, and red, and orange. Eve made it. I wish I can soon learn how to make one. Though, it gives of a feel of heat.

40 Years Later:
Here I am. With tears coming down my cheeks. They are only coming down for Eve. I'm standing at her grave. I knew that she was off, to a better place.

The rest of the kingdom backed out. In the end, the two men had overpowered him and locked him in a cage. Who knows were they took the little monkey.

It was just not all about him. Pride, is not always a good thing.

The Outcast of Poker Flat

If you had to blame someone or something for the outcasts deaths, who/what whould you blame and why?
Uncle Billy
-Citizens or Poker Flat
-Bad luck
-Outcasts

In my opinion, I blame the citizens of Poker Flat. First, I think that they are to blame to because they are the people who got them out of their town. They accused them of only one thing. That was that they were not worthy. The people from Poker Flat misjusdge them. Although, they were responsible for their own appearance. The outcasts were really not bad people.
Mr. Oakhurst was a gambler, but he did not drink or do anything bad to Poker Flat. The only reason that everyone wanted him out was because he had "stolen" all their money. In position of Tom and Piney, they didn't deserve this. They were just a nice couple going to a town. They wouldn't have stopped if they hadn't met Uncle Billy, Duchess, or Mother Shipton. These people all stayed in a place were they were not supported by any food or materials. They wouldn't last long. Their whole destination or paths could all have been different if the citizens hadn't pushed them out to a cold coming place.

Kate Chopin

Desiree's Baby

This story in particular I liked. I think this because it has a great effect on the reader in the end. I think that it has a wide detailed contribution to "racism". It was real shocking to discover that this was a huge mistake a man could ever do to his family. It was gruesome in my point of view to see that this man burned every little detail of his family. I learned from this story a type of reaction that a man or anyone would have on this type of case. I learned how racism contributed to many things in this story. I really disliked the end, and how Armand would probably not get his family back.

The Story of an Hour

In my point of view this was a real dramatic story. It surprised me more to learn that this woman was so looking forward to her freedom, to find out that her illusions would fall down. I think that this story had a great diverse idea about freedom. In this case, the idea of freedom is in marriage. How a woman feels put down by her husband. He is like a nightmare and she hopes to soon end this. Another reason why I liked this story was because it reflected a woman's feelings and could be connected to real life problems.

The Blind Man

This is my favorite story because it shows a great contrast in between a poor and blind man, to a rich and not blind man. It showed that even the widest could be dumb at a point. I learned that someone would really appriciate your help like the blind man. I could also learn to be more helpfu;, and not be like the people from the town. They were careless and were disturbed by the man's presence. I disliked though that the author didn't put a happy ending.

"Dr.Heidegger's Experiment"

My Observations: To begin this experiment I tested the water from the Fountain of Youth. My dear old friends had no idea of what I was going to give to them. I took hold of a fifty-five year old rose. I explained to them what I was about to do. That rose was born again. I told them that if they took these drinks they become younger. As they did, I could see that Widow Wycherley's face cleared from her deep wrinkles! It was really working. Mr. Medbourne, Colonel Killigrew , and Mr. Gascoigne could stand up straight. But then the strange things started happening. They started to act a little funny. They started to dance, and now the big problem rose. My friends wanted more. I told them to be careful, and to think about what they were about to do. This was a second chance beign given to them. But I was disapointd. Things did not come to the way I planned it to. Once, all of them looked at each other in their yunger ways. All three men gathered around Wycherley to dance with her. I recorded everything that happened in a notebook. She did not say yes or no to them. One thing that catched my eye though, was that once one of them moved to look in their mirror, they appeared the same, old. Their behavior did not chang in all afternoon. But the effects seemed to be going away. Everyone started panicking. They were really hoping to stay like this forever. I couldnt do anything or explain why this happened. To my impression, they were angry and decided that they would look for this Fountain. I could not stop them, for I was sure that their mistakes were going to be made over again.

Desiree's Baby, The Sequel

It took him a moment to realize what the letter was saying. It just couldn't be. What had he done. He had taken out the only woman he once ever loved. A child of his, and he denied it since he saw the color of his skin. If he knew earlier. This is why he had come to America, and explain the reason mother didn't want to come. He was a slave himself. Armand had become really furious. It was this that had broughten his family now. Armand felt anger towards his mother. It was she who had broughten him to the world. He had no one know.
For days he knew nothing about his wife and son. He had spent eating his anger through every drop of alcohol he drank. His slaves could do nothing to stop him, and Armand just was not the same as he treated them before. He felt that his mother was in between them somewhere. His mother was dead now, or was it a lie?
A month later, Armand was walking up the steps to Valmonde's home. He was decided that he would get his family back. One of the slaves opened the door. The woman led him up to Desiree's room. As he entered he could see that she was lying the baby down in her bed. He was asleep. She looked at him with confusing eyes.
"What are you doing here?" I thought you were on a business trip.
"I....came back to get what was mines. You and my only son. Please, I made an enormous mistake. I need to talk to you about my real past. While the fire, I found and old letter that my mother had given my father before retrieving to this land. It told my father that it was lucky when I didn't show the resemblence of her, a slave. My mother was one of them. Im the reason why our son was born like this.
"You must sell them. If you know who you truly are let them go. Otherwise, you or us can really get in serious problems with the laws of this town. Move in with us. " she ordered.
Slaves were let go, and Armand moved in. From then on they had a tough job of rising up together. He was not sure wether to look for his mother, or not.

Flowers for Algernon

If you were given a choice to have an operation that would make you much smarter, would you do it, especially if you know the effects of the surgery would only be temporary? Why or why not? Use examples from the book.

If I was given a choice to have an operation that would make me much smarter I would take it. Even though if I know that the effects of the sugery would only be temporary. I would take this operation because I would believe that I can improve many things in my life during this point of time. Charlie is a man who to learn must take a really amount of time. All of a sudden, he goes into an operation because he is most determined than ever to become smart. Who wouldn't want to become at least a bit smart? When this happens he realizes many things that have an effect in his life. He experiences new things. Because of this I would like to take this chance. Maybe I can imrpove things around my environment. Like the way im living and change that. Even though im going back to normal, i would still have the benefit of having something fixed around me. A safe place as example too. In the story, Charlie has become a part of the doctor's experiment. He is running this to try to study many things of his kind and condition of his mind. Therefore, his contribution works to help out these doctors find out more. Maybe they can help out other people like him. This is why I'd take the operation.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Chapters 8-The End

Family : This story says that family is supposed to be about one not messing up. In other words, don't do anyhting that can embarrase the family out in public. For example, we read that Roger Button told Benjamin from the start to make some deep big changes. The reason why is to hide who Benjamin really is, and for no one to know that that old man was his son. He was trying to aviod any embarrasment. Another example from the story was how Roger told Benjamin to always call him by another name out when being in public. So, the man had to do everything he could to not mess up or get attention.

Age: This story says that age will affect how others feel for you. For example, as Mrs. Benjamin Button was growing older, Benjamin felt really annoyed by her. She did not attract him at all. Here the cause for this to happen was age. Another example would be on how Benjamin's dad knowing that he was old enough, gave him a rattle in order for him to feel like he was really a son and normal. Once Benjamin Button had a son, he grew old too. When Benajmin was finally young, His son Roscoe did not care for him. He was getting younger, and by his appearance, it made Roscoe feel in higher authority. This is how his age affected Roscoe's feelings.

Beauty: In this story, Beauty is what you look like and not what you are. One kind of example would be Benjamin's wife. Here beauty was attraction, and not her character. As time passed,Benjamin wasn't attracted to her, beauty was missing. This happened in another way too. It happened in the case of Benjamin. He dyed his hair and did everything possible to make an image of a younger person. His father did not take his son as who he was. In my opinion this is the part where the looks were more important.

The Curious Case of Benjmin Button, Chapters 3-7

After reading Chapters 3-7, predict three problems you think Benjamin will encounter and give your solutions for each.

Problem #1: I think that one of the problems that Benjamin Button will encounter is the higher age of his wife. Because he feels not attracted to her already, something else might get his eye. Benjamin might start losing his family, and even worse.
Solution: I think that the only solution that there is is to keep away from any other woman, and try to keep a close relationship with his son.
Problem #2: A second problem that I think Benjamin will encounter is how little by little he will lose a skil. Since he is appears to get younger each day, he might only know how to do certain things. If he gets even younger, his family would be really surprised.
Solution: A solution to this prblem I think should be to tell his son and wife about what is happening to him.
Problem #3: The third problem that he might encounter is the view points of the public. They might think that he is crazy and obsessed with getting to be younger. If he does one wrong move the town people will think he is careless if his family.
Solution: The solution would be to just let it go on, but try to do any negative things that will make other people have negative views of him.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Chapter 2

Roger is so overly concerned with how Benjamin looks and is worried about what people are going to say. What should he do?
First of all, if he was so concerned about the way he looked, he wouldn't have bought what he did. The pink pants, and dotted socks? He obviously just doesn't know what he's doing. Well, Roger is a wealthy man, and probably what he would do is hide the old man just to not get embarrased. But I think, that if he doesn't want people to know his son, he should simply state that his baby had died. if not, then he should take another path. This one is trying as hard as he can to simply accept the truth. He may have his tough times, but if the son is what he always wanted, then he should make the right decision and tell everyone he is his son. I'd say that beacuse he alreasy is a wealthy man, he'd attract more attention. The only reason why is because of his son. A good view to this side of the story is in how everyone will be interested in him and his son.

The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, Chapter 1

What would you have done if you were Roger Button in Chapter 1?
In chapter one, I think I would be really shocked. No one has ever had a kid like this. One thing I would do from the start is go buy clothes for the seventy year old man. I would try to talk to the doctor to see if he knows how or why might of this happened. Also, I think that after a while, I would just stare at the man looking how is he like us in ways. Another thing I would do is go check on the mother and ask her what had happened to see if this was true. I just wouldn't believe it.I think that the mother wouldn't either. By then, I'd known that this kind of case wasn't going to be as easy. I think that the man was going to need a lot of care even though he is old. He might need medical attention too because as they get older they have many problems. It was going to take up money, he was an adult, and pretty much needed of what we have.

Yesterday, Today

Nobody can ever replace you
You are a one and only
You are going away now
Can I let go?I remember you and me as if it was yesterday
But now those days are going to be long far away
Your warming hugs
And your annoying tugs
For ever we are friends
It’s been two years
This is our last
But I’ll wait for your call
With so much to do, maybe it’s more convenient in the fall
Anyways
Let’s stop
And take a step outside that door because you and I are taking a long walk

A Picture Is Worh A Thousand Words

There were women screaming for help. Men fighting. Fire spreading across the field. Horses left were just wandering around. Some left their owners and escaped death. I could see men lying in their back shot dead. Blood all over their faces. All over the dirt, and on the men’s sword. He had slashed the man’s throat next to him. It was one king’s army against the other. Men loosing were the poorest. Our king I should say was like nothing I’d seen. He made this town a world of corruption. He would crush any idea of freedom. The battle had started yesterday night. I could smell the worst, decaying bodies. I have seen the miserable families crying over the dead. Unfortunately I was one of them. My father was a soldier, and he had lost his life just minutes before this battle was over. My mother had tried to get in the field to get his body. She could not. Crawling on the ground she struggled against a soldier. He wore black shields protecting his body. The man had a fierce face, and with his right arm he held my mother by her left arm real hard.

“Run Edwin, run!” she yelled crying.

She was in danger, I wanted to help her. But she insisted. I knew what was coming next. It was what I feared the most. First, my father, and as I ran and looked back, my mother. Both dead. The last that I had seen was him wearing his poor uniform that was provided. My mother was wearing a long old dress; it had been passed down to her by her mother. She was expected to give it to her future daughter. She never had one, she had me, a boy. So, I found myself today walking along this road made only out of dirt. I’ve been walking for almost the whole morning afternoon, it is getting late. There is no food or water.

It is already dark, and I am staying under a tall green tree. It’s next to the road, but a little farther. I don’t know how much time I had spent sleeping, but I woke to a sound. I looked all around. I saw a white horse, his hair was straight and pale white as that of the moon. The horse had a rope tied to him. I used that to tie it to the tree. In the morning we started our journey to get to the next town. I didn’t know what I had to do once I got there, but I knew I had to find a way to survive. I would get a job first.

We crossed a river, but there was a ramp over it. The water was in a rush. If one of us had fallen in there it would take us along with it. Time had passed, but the sun was still in the sky. We finally got to the town. It was very crowded. There was a stand of fruit, the owner, an old man, was nice enough to give me something to eat. He offered me a place to stay. The man’s name was John. He already had a family, He had two kids, and his wife Angela. It was time to close his stand. John made enough family to support his family.

We finally went to his home. I met his son; he was seven, four years younger than me. The little girl was only five years old. John also lived with his wife’s mother. They owned a cute brown and white dog. I think my horse could accept that fact. We all went to bed. They were all so nice to me. John and his wife told me to stay with them, they wanted to keep me as their third child. They could no longer have children. The next morning, I was so hungry I woke up to the smell of pie, and breakfast. John called us downstairs and told us to wash our hand before eating.

We then all gathered, and once I was there I grabbed as much as I could and started eating it. The two kids were there, and we talked so much. After, we were planning to play outside. But I knew that if I was going to live here I had to help around. I was going to help john at his work. In the meantime, John went upstairs to get his coat. Angela was there feeding the horse. The dog was in her lap. And the younger boy stood there watching all of us. I could hear the bird’s chirps outside, flowers blooming, it was spring. I’ll treat John and Angela as I treated my lost parents. I will never forget them.

15. It annoys me when a car driver in front of me doesn't hurry up, or does not pay attention and ends up being on cell phone.
16. When they try copying.
17. When he calls me every five minutes.

20. When he doesn't listen.
21. It annoys me when the little one asks me too much questions.
22. When he puts that type of music so loud.
23. When he all of a sudden hits the breaks because he doesn't know what he's doing.
24. When he comes nearby only to try to pinch or hit me.
25. When I have to wake up so early.

The Secret

It was my best friend's deepest, darkest secret and it would be a hard one to keep....

We had been best friends since second grade. And today we are in college. We made it trough a whole lot of years. The funny thing was that my name was Darcy, and her name was Marcy. Like twin sisters. But all that changed heavily, when I found out about her darkest secret. I don’t know the possible things I could have done if I had known earlier.

Marcy was only an inch taller than me. She had nice straight brown hair, with dark brown eyes that made her stand out. She was a very smart student, and she was in almost every sport team. We had earned the same scholarships. Terribly she can’t be here now.

It all started one early morning in the autumn. It was already about three months after the first day of “school”. Marcy came to my house early in the morning like always. I opened the door to see her huge smile. I let her in and she followed me in the kitchen. She wore a light blue top over some denim jeans. She said she had this great idea that can save the rest of our lives being together. For our future we had different plans, but agreed to communicate with one another once in a while. And well, we had only about two more years to go, and jobs to get to pay our studies. Marcy’s plan was not good at all.

She was planning to get money out of a bank. But how? By robbing the bank. When I heard it, I thought it was just a joke. She couldn’t possible do that, she could get herself in jail just by that
. Anyways, she started talking about how she was going to bring a gun, and if it was necessary she would shoot someone. Her first step she said while looking in her list was to go in the bank and fire a shot in the air like they normally did in the movies. She went on how she would have her dark mask and stuff. What a joke. I did know Marcy for a long time, I knew she wasn’t capable of hurting someone. Especially after her father’s death. He was shot three years ago when she was sixteen. Eventually she got over it and decided to let her father rest in peace. Surprisingly, Marcy had this “robbery” planned for next week. I started getting nervous, she explained everything so detailed to me. On the other hand, that same day we went to school. Unfortunately we were assigned a project that would take us about a week. I got so into the project I stopped paying attention to her. But I knew she was stuck in the house doing the same thing. It was a cold Friday morning, and I came down to the kitchen were my mom was watching the TV while cooking breakfast. The news was on. Nothing but bad news is what they should call it. All of a sudden a live report came in. that report got my mom’s whole attention. I was grabbing something in the fridge when she called me to watch it. I went up to the screen. I couldn’t believe it. It was Marcy. She wore a black mask, and a black outfit. I recognized her by her height and by her hair. She had it in a pony tail. Apparently, therewas a news reporter, she filmed Marcy pointing a rifle to a man’s head. Though, my mother could not recognize her. I was so scared. I had to go out and get her, I couldn’t let her do this. When I arrived it was too late, I spoke with a police officer. Aparently, they knew it was a woman. They did not know anything else, not even did they get information about the witnesses. She had killed five people who had tried to bring her down. She took about one billion dollars, and had escaped through a back door. That day, I had no other chioce but to go to school. We were supposed to turn the project in. But Marcy wasn't there. After school, I tried looking everywhere for her. No trace. I took a shortcut to get home. I walked through a park. As I walked someone grabbbed me and covered my mouth with their arm. When I turned around I saw it was her.

Her Mysterious Death

Her death was due to mysterious circumstances and I was assigned to the case.

I had immidiately come after the call I got from my boss. Apparently a woman was murdered in her own home. The woman was alone, no children, and no husband. She was in her late twenties. She had brown wavy hair, dark brown eyes, normal body size, about five feet five. Well, her house was located in a street called Aplan, here in a small suburb of Los Angeles.

When I came in, the woman was in her bed. Her covers were from head to toe. There was blood in the floor, bedsheets, and some on a dark brown desk next to her bed. She had mutiple stab wounds. What was the most strangest thing was that only one drop of blood was spattered in the cover. I then grabbed a buccal swab to profile the DNA. Also, grabbed samples from the other blood to make sure every drop of it was hers. I looked around the room for indetification. But it was then not necessary when the victim's maid had come here in the morning. It was she who discovered her body. Possible suspect, I thought. So, I decided to question her.

"What is your name?" I asked, trying to observe if what she was telling me was true.

"My name is Martha, and I am the maid in this house." She answered.

"How did you find the body?"

"I came in as regular at eight in the morning, as I entered there was a strong odor in the whole house. I decided to look around for where it was coming from. And unfortunately, I found Ms. Aiko. Soon I called police." she stated truthfully.

After interrogating her, I asked other neighbors. I asked them questions about her daily life, or if she had any people in her house at the time. A couple responded and simply stated that they hadn't seen nothing. There were no quests or fights. As for her daily life, she was somewhat stressed. Business wasn't going well, and she usually arrived late at night.

Back in her home I found one empty bottle of liquor in the living room. There was two cups. If this cup had DNA, we can catch our last person to see Ms. Aiko. And maybe, the killer. I placed out markings in every part of the scene of crime. Then I took pictures to use it later on as evidence. In the desk right next to her bed was her diary. I sat in the other end of the bed, the other forensic team had taken the woman's body for autopsy. The people were right. She was having a hard time, and only her cousin Emily was with her throughout the whole time. She owned a company, and for some reason their economic status wasn't very good. Some one had been handling the money not very well. I tried to reach for an address of this cousin Emily. One detail that caught my eye was the mentioning of a person. Aiko had desbribed one man as the giver. Apparently, she was purchasing an expensive object she did not mention from him. Back in the lab, I ran the DNA database for the samples I found in the glass cup. There was no match. As for autopsy, Ms.Aiko had apparently consumed more liquor than anyone could of possibly have. There were some high levels of drug use. These were for her DOB. As for her TOD, it was about seven hours ago. It means, that she was murdered around one in the morning. It answers my question. The giver was a drug dealer. It explains why she describes it as expensive. That one drop of blood did not make a match either. After a few days of reading Aiko's diary i had found the cousin's adress. So, I decided to go to her house. It wasn't exactly as I expected, she lived right downtown in an apartment. The woman was no more taller than our victim. She had black hair, and brown eyes, she appeared to have been sleeping. We sat down in her living room and started talking about her cousin Aiko.

"When was the last time you saw you cousin?" I interrogated.
"Yesterday, at work". she said rubbing her eyes.
"I understand that you were very trusted by Aiko, is that true?"
"Yes, I ran many things, and handled money errands."
Do you know who might "the giver" be?"
"It was a man, he lived in a poor town. Aiko would buy drugs from him. She wasn't very good. Everything was falling apart. She owed him some money."

For that day, that was all i could gather. I still had no other clues. So, I decided to return to the crime scene. I didn't notice it at first. But back in the hallway, there was a room. It was an office. There was a desk, and behind it was a safe. The door was open. Money was missing. I searched for any fingerprints, and I did. I ran them in the database abkc in the lab. It was from a man who already had some problems with the police for illegal possesion of drugs. When i went into that poor town i found the man. He looked at me, he knew i was a detective. He started runnign. BUt i was fast enough and got him. I took him to the station.

How To Make Logandale Better

I think that there are three ways that can make Logandale a better school. It can accomplish this by getting more adults or parents involved. Second, to have more activities running in Logandale School. Finally, to make the neighborhood inside and outside of this schools a safe one. Do you think it would hurt to at least try these ideas?

To accomplish this goal, we can try to have more adults and parents involved. It doesn’t consist of participating in school, but you can help out in other ways. One of those ways is to get students to do their assigned work. For certain parents, it is not required to check the work, but to make sure it is done. With this, students can bring up grades and improve the school’s scores. There might be work when you know that these students have lots of classes.

Second of all, to make Logandale a better school, we can have different types of exploratory. Before, the school used to have more kinds of activities as a class. The principal says that all of these classes are going to take up too much time. That’s not the way I think of it, if we have one exploratory every week it can really work out. I think of this reason because many students these days are interested in things such as performing arts. What else can make Logandale a better school?

My third reason as in how Logandale would be a better school is by making it safe to be in. We must make sure that the surroundings or environment is safe, and not threatening to kids from another town or part of the city. Recently there was a shooting real close by to the school. It has to be known that these students can walk home by themselves without any worries. This is what I think can be done, don’t you think the same?

In conclusion, I say that there are different ways to make Logandale a better school. One, by getting more parent or adult involved in a different way. Secondly, to have more programs available. Lastly, to make sure Logandale’s campus is safe. What do you agree on?

Elizabeth Quintana's Life Story

Today, September fifth year 1994, I gave birth to my very first daughter. I have not yet picked a name. My husband and I still disagree over it. He says we should name her like one member of his side of the family I can’t recall. I say it should be Elizabeth. None of our family’s name is similar to hers. It was about four thirty in the morning, and soon enough I found myself in the hospital room holding her. She was covered in a white blanket with the word Norwegian American hospital on it. Her father was next to me, and we eventually decided to name her Elizabeth. The next day we were already in our home. My two brothers, sisters, and one sister-in-law were there. They all got a chance to carry her. After she was only one month old, we took a picture of her. She took it with her dad. She was looking right at the camera while placed in a red-orange blanket. I can’t believe that today she is fourteen and we still have that blanket right in the closet. One day, she had a high fever. We took her to the hospital, and even the doctors couldn't get to lower it down. We actually thought she was at risk of dying for this. But the doctors did all they could and lowered it down. from then o she took medicine. When she was one year old we had a birthday party. A lot of friends and family gathered around the table with her to take pictures. Next to her was her oldest cousin named Jocelyn, which she still hangs out with today. Also her cousin that had just been born was in the room sleeping. But they were still babies and nothing serious happened. She was wearing a pink dress with a funny hat that matched it. It was tiring, she cried and cried and as much as we tried she did not want to take a picture with any of them. It was not until I left the camera to my brother and went to carry her. She finally stopped crying. The party had finally ended, and only my brothers, sisters, and sister-in- law were left. We were opening her presents. She had gotten a guitar with a microphone, a nice shirt and shorts, and the rest were toys. What stood out the most was the guitar. Today she claims we had to keep it because even she liked it. Every one of us was really happy to have her with us. We had only been here in Chicago for about two years and we had the though we needed someone else to be with. Though, there was a saying that my mother had wanted a grandson from me. But I never did have one. When Elizabeth was only five years old I had a second child. It was a girl. I though it was a good idea because now she wouldn’t be alone anymore and have a sister. Though, she did have two friends who lived in the same building as us. A boy named Eric from the third floor, and a girl a year older than her in the first floor. Elizabeth was pretty good at school. I wished the best for her, I had only finished sixth grade. Though she wasn’t like her cousins. Her cousins played the playstation or would be learning how to use a computer. That’s why she now does not have much experience with a computer or how the games are worked out. In the summer of 2004 we took our daughters to Mexico. They met their grandmother, uncles, aunts, and other older cousins. They were very shy and did not speak much. Next we took them to Los Angeles, California. They didn't experience much but they soon hope to come back to that city. Two years later, when she was about eleven years old she had her second sister, our third daughter, no boy yet. As years passed she’s been growing along with her sister. They’re not that close though, they argue a lot and get into many fights. Their youngest sister just gets on her sister’s side, not Elizabeth's. Because I had left work I decided to work again. She is now in charge of the entire house. She’s responsible even though sometimes she gets into serious trouble. Though even I know she doesnt' like to do any of this stuff she does it. She has her own goals, one of them is not being a cook or do chores. The second, she won't get married or have children. Third, to have a career. I'll see if she makes her promises in the future. I don't think of that right now and i also don't expect her to not have kids. I want her to be a mother but at a right age. Now a days, she is in middle school and is getting ready to go to high school. I know her friends and she seems happy to be with them and go out with them too. This is how her life has been so far from then.

What Do I WishFrom Barack Obama?

What I wish from Barack Obama is for him to improve gun control to eliminate crime. Today, crimes are being committed everywhere at any time. Sometimes, fires get shot, and sadly there is an innocent victim killed. Also, many guns are being sold to anybody. It is all going out of control, and I wish for him to improve this cases.

Serious crimes today are being committed. Everywhere at any time. Many kinds of crimes can be done. There is suicide, murders, and probably even accidents. There are young adults that are filled with hatred towards a person. As a result, the person gets killed. These are young people, and they should not have a gun in hands because they are not responsible enough to control themselves, or the gun.

Because they are young, many get attracted or lured in gangs. Gangs are the worst to handle guns in my point of view. They are another factor of murder. A lot of time they get so out of control. When they want to shoot someone they accidentally shot someone innocent. It is always the same excuse, they got the wrong person. One example of it is how a mother while taking out her children got shot. This is how dangerous guns are, and still it needs an improvement on who and how guns are controlled by.

These young adults and even older adults get these guns illegally. The chances are that they might have of bought it legally, or bought it illegally. In order to eliminate crime, the president should decide on having to approve of many laws. One way that I think he can inprove the controlof guns is for officials onlyto use.Such as trusted policemen, detectives, and high trusted security.

I think that if one wants to buy a gun he or she must be older than 30, and the place where they can buy it is only owned by professionals. To check for anything odd going on, they can get checked once in a while. Also check their type of guns, to see if they have been part of a crime. This is what I wish Barack Obama could improve.

Life-Changing Event

It was one occasion that changed my way of thinking about something. Not also did that changed my aspects of life but also my personal life. It changed the way my family gathered together. Mostly though, it hurt my youngest cousins.

Many people watch novels. Some are sad, and some make you very desperate to see what happens next. Once when I watched a novel, a couple was getting divorced when they had children. My only thought was, “that’s never happening to my family, that’s only for people who do things without thinking.” Unfortunately, I now hope I had taken it back. It's very different thatn I had ever thought.

It was one late night, and my aunt still hadn't come home. She had gone shopping with her daughter. The second of her three children. My uncle, her husband, had gotten mad. He didn't like her being out so late. My aunt was one of those women who are addictcted to shopping. When she finally came home, they started arguing. But neither my parents, or my cousins, paid any attention to them.

The next day we had come home from school. We saw that my aunt had gathered her clothes all together. We asked what was happening. She was going to go from the house, and leave her children with my uncle. She said that her relationship wasn't going well. They couldn't get along with each other.

Today, it's all different. When we have celebrations, my uncle is not there. He and my dad used to get along with each other very well. Whenever he asks for help, we help him not because of him, but we help him because of his children. As for the aspects of life, I think that no matter how perfect you think your family is, something can happen out of nowhere. That's how it changed my life.

Parents Are Not The Best Teachers

I disagree with the statement, parents are the best teachers, parents are not the best teacher.First of all, not always is a parent a good role model. Parents, in their past, might of made bad decisions. In relationship with their child, they might not have one at all.A parent is that who takes care of you and shows you the values of life, but not all kids view it that way.

Not always is a parent a good role model.Parents, mostly fathers are abusive, and hurt the child every day until they reach an older age. Sometimes, parents have sloppy behavior that makes them lose their job. When that kid sees his or her parents it affects them much because they get something in their head that makes them believe they can act the very same way. Having made all of this, it is a parent’s fault because of what they might of done in their past.

Parents in their past might have made bad decisions. For example, it was very different back then, and younger girls to the age of sixteen sometimes get pregnant and have a child. This can affect their child because raising this kid is very hard work, and may be not yet prepared of life. Fathers, as young men might also have been choosing the wrong friends, and choosing to do wrong. One of those bad decisions, can include drugs, it can affect them for their rest of their lives and maybe passing it to their own child’s life.

In a relationship with their child, they might not have one at all. When family’s relationship is not going well it eventually splits up.As the married couple with children split up, they lose a lot of contact with their children. If not this case, there are cases were teens face many things, and do not have someone who can help them or give them advice as to what should they do. All these cases can harm someone’s life, can’t it?

In conclusion, this is why I believe that the statement parents are the best teacher is not always true. Not always is a parent a good role model. And in their past, they might have made bad choices. In having a close relationship with their child, they might not have one at all. As you can see, you may have perfect parents, but there are other kids out in the world that do not share these feelings with their parents.

A Skill Everyone Needs

I think that a skill that everyone needs to learn in order to be in the world today is lots. Some are extremely important. I think that one skill that one should know in order to be in life is learning about mathematics.

I believe that learning mathematics is an important skill for today. One reason why I think this skill is important is because one needs this in order to pass math classes at school. Secondly, they must learn this skill to get a career, or maybe different jobs. Third, to work your way through the economy that we are facing today. But in order to be successful you need to go to school first, don't you?

First of all, one needs mathematics in order to pass math classes in school. As a kid grows up, he or she will eventually go. There they will learn many things dealing with math. For young starters they will learn how to count. Another will be involved in time. The older ones will learn how to manage time. But taking care of time is part of what adults do, along with his or her job.

Secondly, an adult needs the skill of mathematics in order to get a job. Many careers involve mathematics. For example, computer programmers, engineers, or scientists are those careers. Knowing this skill will make it easy for that that enters the field that they chose to. Not only is time important, but handling money is too.

My last reason for choosing the skill of learning mathematics is in order to get through this hard economy. Today, the world is facing problems with money. They must know how to count, multiply, subtract, add, and now to manage their money wisely. In my opinion, it is really required that society should know how to manage money because now in days people all over the country are losing their homes. This is how tough it gets, if you can't handle the money well.

In conclusion, I believe that in order to be successful in the world today you must learn the skill of mathematics. To be able to go on and progress in education. Second, to get a good career and job. Lastly, to be able to work through the economy of today. If you do not want to end up losing money, or your home, then you should start working on your capability in math.

The Best Day Ever

My best day ever was a good one. It was a cold day full of snow, and I had not yet known it was going to be the best day ever.

It was Friday. It was another day in the season of winter. I woke up, and saw a lot of snow outside the window. The trees were leafless, and no one was outside. Friday was also another day for school. It took me about ten minutes walking to get to school. I thought of how cold outside was. I didn't want to go. Luckily, my aunt was around and she drove me there. I could feel the strong winds hitting my cheek as I walked towards the front doors of school. I was on time.

As I got in the clasroom I saw my friends gathered where I usually sat. It was going to be fun. We were going to go to the movies. We had made a plan days ago, but now was the day and we had to go. We did not have any arguments over what time we were going to go or who was going to take us.

Later in the day it had gotten very dark. I went over to my friend's house. There we waited for the rest to come. An hour had gone by and we were all there. We joked around and laughed a lot. My friend's mom was ready to drive us to the movies, but first we had to pick up another long time friend. During the driving I was hearing my MP3 with the friend to me. A little before I got off the car I carefully placed it in my jacket's pocket. And we went in the place.

When we got in we saw a lot of people in line. But there was a problem. We did not agree on what movie to see. Then, I looked at the table with all of the movies. There were only some good ones. But we finally, after about ten long minutes we had agreed on what movie to see. It was a nice one. The thing was that we were all not together. We had split up. Other friends and I went to see a horror movie. But the others went to see funny ones. Because the movie had finished early, and we were still watching our movie, they sneaked to see another one without getting caught.

After about an hour and half the movie was over. But we could not go. I was too shoked. I had lost my MP3.I remebered it was in my pocket, but it had disappeared. My friends and I looked all over the place like crazy. But we did not find it. I looked in my seat, under all of the seats and the rows below it. It had occured to me it may of have fallen. Still, it did not.

When we came out of the movie room, we saw that two of our friends were there. They were coming out of another movie. And we asked them to help us. We just didn't find it and went up to the lost and found. I signed a sheet with my phone number and address. I had also written a description of the device.

It was time to go, after all that searching and playing we were all tired. My friend's mom was outside wating for us. As we got in one of them spottd something. It was my Mp3, it was so funny. It had slipped out of my pocket. We all laughed because we were so worried about it, and had spent much of our time we could of used for playing games on searching. I went back to the lost and found and got rid of the paper for my device.

One of my friends had left. And now it was only four of us. We went back to my friend's house and we ate. In the end we all left walking home. One by one we dropped them off. I was the last. That day for me was the best day ever. It was full of laughing and jokes, and also a big mistake. The important part was that I had spent it with my closest friends.

Her Smile

"When I look at her smile, I knew she was up to something. I only laughed, she appeared as if she was going to do something really funny. At the end of the day, it was all mroe clear. As I walked to my locker, i saw that my friend smiled at me. When i walked into class, the next one smiled too. What was going on today? My day went perfectly, except for all those smiles. Like always I took all of my classes. I was in my senior year of highschool, and I couldn't let anything bring me down. I took my algebra class, my science class, and my reading class. I found math the hardest, although some think is not. As I wrote down the problems from the book, I saw a figure in the corner of my eye. It was her. She gave me this smile againg. She had short cut blond hair. It reached down to her shoulders. I thought about it the whole period. But I couldn't guess what she was thinking, or what she was even smiling at. Her smile seemes more like a kind of laugh. At lunch time, the girl was sitting two tables away from me. She didn't turn to me this time. Only two hours left till school finishes. In writing class, i saw that that same girl whispered something in the ear to the next girl next to her. The bell rang, and I ran fast to get my things. when all of a sudden, the girl with the pretty blond hair came up to me and whispered in my ear. This day was not my day. I looked down to what i was wearing.I looked like a rainbow. My pants were yeallow, my shirt was green, one shoe was red the other was missing a string. I was wearing the colors of the rainbow.I lift up my pants just a little bit, one sock was sock was blue, and the other?, the other i had no clue. It was not my day, the teens around me burst out laughing. They looked at me as if i was real weird. but there was only one explanation. Today, I woke up very late, and got late to school. I didn't realize i was such in a hurry, and grabbed anything that was in front of me and put it on. Her smile, made my day even worse."
