Fifty Things I know about The Holocaust

1. One thing that I know about the holocaust was were its name came from and its meaning.


2. A little before jews were taken, people would hide their jewelry in a pice of bread and then it. They did not want anyone else of their possesion.


3. The people were killed in ways such as breathing in poison gas.


4. Adolf Hitler was the commander of every force in charge of killing. He was the cause of many destroyed lives.


5. I know that Death marches were named when the camp prisoners were moved by the S S to another pleace.


6. The word Ghetto was derived from this horrifying event.



7. Bodies were sometimes piled in various streets.



8. Childern of any age were given the job of cleaning the streets, to sweep them, and hand clean them with a rag while everyone was watching.



9. More than twenty thousand camps were put up to pile the people inside.



10. The kind of people killed were not only jews, among them were communists, Jehova's Witnesses, homosexuals, and gyptians.

11. Many prisoners died of maltreatment, starvation, and disease.

12. Twins would be used in mediacal examintations, sometimes leaving them with wounds, or killing them. Other kinds of children were used too not only for this reason.

13. Children were used with other labor jobs.

14. Extermination camps were given names. One of these were Chelmno, which opened in the year of 1941 not long ago in the month of December.

15. About six thousand would be killed in gas chambers each day.

16. The jewish star stands for the star of David, it was sewn into a prisoner's uniform.

17. A prisoner was indetentified with a marking on them. A political criminal would have a red marked traingle. A criminal would have a green marked triangle.

18. The word POW stands for Soviet prisoners of War.

19. Ghettos were areas that sorrounded and separated the prisoners.

20. Holocaust lasted six years.

21. Germany invaded both Poland and the Soviet Union.

22. Operations were like plans of how to kill the Jews. For example, there was an operation called Operation Reinhard , and it consisted of three places in it to kill them.
24. Auschwitz was the largest concentration camp compared to any other kind.
25. Women imprisoned who were pregnant were forced to abort thier child.
26. Sometimes, the prisoners would help and hide a child and help it to survive.
27. The Nazis did not want to get caught, and in order to hide all evidence they would tear the camps apart and burn other such things. For example, they did this whhen the Soviets arrived at one of the established camps.
28. It wasn't until they, the Soviets, came and released prisoners.
29. One famous known prisoner was Anne Frank, who as days passed wrote in her diary about what happened throughout.
30. What the Soviet found as evidence that something had happened was 800,000 women's outfits, wide quantities of men suits, and to about 14,000 pounds of human hair!
31. Concentration camps were places were the people were in forced labor, or any other way of torture, extermination camps were the places were these millions of people were finally killed.
32. Only one third out of the whole Jew population survived.
33. The word Progrom comes from the Russian meaning to demolish violenty.


34. Both women and girls were raped in the camps, sometimes, in return for food and other materials.


35. Besides twins, women were also used in medical experiment. The difference was though that this experimentwas for sterilization.


36. In January 1933, Germany was taken over by Germany.

37. In 1945, Jews migrated from Germany to Austria.

38. Children who were disabled were about 5,000.

39. The Jews and Romani were taken to extermination camps by riding in a freight train.

40. The word Holocaust has now become a translation of "Shoah".

41. It did not matter if you were not a Jew, if any had Jew past ancestry they would be considered to extermination.

42. Germany pharmaceuticals also made experiments with the prisoners by using their drugs, not just operations.

43. Experiments consisted of the most notorious things, such as amputation, freezing bodies, and putting chemicals in a child's eye to change the color would be conducted by Dr.Josef Mengele.

44. Adolf Hitler gave a warning by writing a book, but he never mentioned of any killing awaiting for them.

45. Jews in particular were barred from everything, boh school and jobs.

46. In 1935, German Jews were no longer citizens from the fact that Adolf Hitler passed the Nuremberg Laws.
